When I was younger, learning how to use a Svengali Deck was difficult. I had to try and learn from books and magazines with instructions and illustrations that were sometimes very difficult to understand. Fortunately today you can learn how to perform great card tricks with your Svengali Deck by watching a DVD. I recently found a great DVD combo over on Amazon.com called 30 tricks with a Svengali Deck DVD. It comes with a DVD instructional video and a pack of Bicycle Svengali Cards.
I highly recommend this DVD and deck of cards combo from Amazon.com…. you can grab the set for only $15.95 which is a 30% discount off the regular price.

A Svengali Deck is a specially design deck of cards that has been used by magicians for over 100 years to perform various types of card tricks. It is said to have been developed by magician Burling Hull in the early 1900′s.
The tricks performed with a Svengali Deck of card are self-working. This means that they require little to no skill to perform. It is for this reason that the Svengali Deck is primarily used by beginner magicians. Although this deck is used by beginners, don’t let that fool you. A Svengali Deck is also used by working professional magicians as well.
HOW DOES IT WORK
A Svengali Deck works because of the way the cards are cut. For instance, the deck of cards alternates between normal length cards and shortened cards. The shortened cards are all of the same suit and face ( for example… all eight of hearts or jack of spades, etc.). When a magician riffles the deck from front to back, only the normal cards are visible to the spectator, thus creating the illusion of a normal deck of fifty-two different cards. However; when the deck is riffled from back to front, only the shortened cards are now visible and thus creates a way for the magician to force that card onto a spectator.
Because the Svengali deck is designed with normal length and shortened cards, the deck can be riffled and shuffled maintaining the order of the deck, thus again creating the illusion that the deck is simply a normal deck of cards.
A SIMPLE SVENGALI DECK TRICK
One basic trick a magician can perform using a Svengali Deck is when the magician has a spectator choose a card ( forces the shortened card) and has the spectator remember and return the card into the deck. Upon shuffling the deck of cards, the spectators chosen card can easily be revealed anywhere in the deck.
